Golden Arrows got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Marumo Gallants FC on Wednesday evening.

Gladwin Shitolo absence’s saw Siyavuya Ndlovu come in as Arrows’ sole change from the loss to Maritzburg United, whereas Gallants coach Dan Malesela made no changes from the AmaZulu match.

Marumo began to find confidence after a subdued start and a smart header by Ranga Chivaviro from a delivery put goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana in a spot of bother before parrying for a corner-kick.

The resultant corner resulted in another chance where Divine Lungu on-loan from Mamelodi Sundowns put his body on the line and cleared Olivier Toure’s first-time volley off the goal-line.

Abafana Besthende needed to then make a change before the half-hour mark as Themba Mantshiyane was stretchered off and saw Ntsikelelo Nxadi come on to replace him.

The home side’s fortunes worsened after Lunga tripped Katlego Otladisa in the area to give away a penalty and Celimpilo Ngema pounced albeit on the rebound after Mlungwana saved the initial strike.

Arrows could’ve gone level minutes into an energized second half, but a speculative shot on the edge of the area by Knox Mutizwa failed to get the better of goalkeeper Washington Arubi.

However, the host pulled level seven minutes from halftime when Nqubeko Dlamini volleyed in at the far post of the area following a floating ball by Mutizwa.

Abafana Besthende went ahead 60 minutes in after a one-touch passing move from the left followed through to the area where Pule Mmodi charged to curl in the bottom-corner.

The visitors conceded a third ten minutes later when Nduduzo Sibiya intercepted a mis-timed ball from Lebohang Mabotja and set up Mutizwa to side-foot into an empty net.

Gallants got a lifeline seven minutes apart after Chivaviro rose unchallenged at the back-post and headed from a corner-kick.

It was a lively final seconds in which chances went the way of both teams, but Arrows kept it tight and saw out the win to go ninth on the table with Gallants still at the bottom.
