Golden Arrows needed a late finish from Thabani Zuke to secure a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership on Friday evening.

Just a solitary change from Arrows in Themba Mantshiyane showed from their 1-1 draw against Cape Town City, whereas the Maroons missed captain Rafiq De Goede through suspension.

A promising start from Abafana Besthende came when a ball from Ryan Moon ended up with Nduduzo Sibiya out on the near side, but the Maroons tracked back and cleared.

Stellies began to come forward afterwards and pressurized the Abafana Besthende defence through balls from particularly Fawaaz Basadien and Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

The Maroons maintained their momentum midway in the first half and were ahead when Jayden Adams rose high from a corner-kick and headed beyond Nkosingiphile Gumede.

Stellenbosch were fired up following the opener and were in quick search of a second where Basadien dragged a free-kick over the top of target.

Ahead of the second half, the Maroons made a change and in came Nigerian-born Ibraheem Jabaar for William Likuta with Abafana Besthende unchanged.

The host showed a lot of purpose in the earlier stages of the half and were close to the equalizer when Sibiya’s thumping shot outside the area forced a scrambling save from Sage Stephens.

Abafana Besthende continued to up the tempo near the remaining 20 minutes where smart play from Pule Mmodi and Divine Lunga led to a cross into the box, but Stephens collected.

Stellenbosch regained confidence in order to sustain their advantage and almost made it two through a smart attempt by Vusi Sibiya, but Gumede produced a save.

However, Arrows finished the strongest and levelled at the death through a delightful finish from captain Thabani Zuke and snatched a point for his outfit in the end.
