DStv Premiership match report Kaizer Chiefs v Baroka 25 August 2021

Two first-half goals were enough to hand Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win over Baroka in DStv Premiership action on Wednesday evening.

Amakhosi started the game with an increased intensity from their draw with TS Galaxy on Sunday and took the lead in the ninth minute. Lovely build-up play from Chiefs saw Dolly involved before Blom sent a low cross in from the right, which Billiat poked home from close-range.

Baxter's men doubled their lead in the 27th minute. Sifiso Hlanti found himself in space on the left-hand side of the box and delivered into the box where Daniel Cardoso was on hand to finish with a stupendous diving header into the far corner.

Oscarine Masuluke pulled off a tremendous save on the half-hour mark after Keagan Dolly's effort from distance took a wicked deflection and looped towards the underside of the crossbar but the Bakgaga keeper tipped it over the bar with great agility.

Billiat missed a gilt-edged opportunity to put the game to bed before half-time when he was played through one-on-one with the goalkeeper by Dolly, while the Zimbabwean passed up another opening moments later,

Baroka were facing an uphill task at half-time, never having won a league match from two goals down, with Chiefs never having lost a league match going 2-0 up.

Chiefs appeared to take their foot off the pedal in the second period and were looking less resilient at the back as well.

Bakgaga halved the deficit In the 59th minute. Erick Mathoho conceded the corner and Nhlanhla Mgaga delivered from the right-hand side to the backpost where Denwin Farmer was on hand to bury the ball into the bottom right corner with a crisply-struck half-volley.

In the 81st minute, Richard Mbulu then headed the ball against the outside of the left-hand upright after Mgaga delivered from the right-hand side.

The match ended in dramatic fashion as with the very last kick of the encounter, Farmer was left completely unmarked at the back post and headed towards the near post bottom corner but Bruce Bvuma got down well to his left to push the ball away to safety as the referee blew the whistle for full-time.
