DStv Premiership match report Mamelodi Sundowns v Stellenbosch FC 14 May 2020

accreditation

Mamelodi Sundowns finished their final home game of the season with a 3-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Masandawana decided to hand Ricardo Goss, Grant Kekana, Teboho Mokoena and Surprise Ralani recalls from the side that held Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw last week Sunday.

Sundowns were behind after only six minutes when Ashley Du Preez brought down a ball over the top of the defence and beat Goss through a composed point-blank finish.

The Brazilians rapidly began looking for the equaliser near the latter stages of the first half and almost had it from a snap shot by Neo Maema following a ball into space, but he fired wide of the mark.

Maema wasn’t done troubling the Maroons as the half began to wind down and wiggled into space before he faked an opening that brought a save out of Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

However, Stellies doubled their lead three minutes before halftime as Du Preez registered a brace with another smart finish from a decent position.

The Brazilians were cut to size again 12 minutes in the second half after Du Preez outsprinted Kekana following a diagonal pass from the right and went on to complete his hat-trick.

Sundowns should’ve reduced the deficit from a looping ball in the area a few minutes later, but Kekana headed over as Pavol Safranko, Haashim Domingo, Lyle Lakay and Gaston Sirino entered.

Masandawana piled waves of attacks forward in the closing periods and were rewarded on one instance through a back-heel effort by Mokoena, but he had Stephens equal to the task.

The Brazilians continued to battle on all fronts as the clocked began to ticked away and in the end went down 3-0.
