A first start for goalkeeper Brylon Petersen and return for Amadou Soukouna picked out Maritzburg’s line-up, whilst Chippa recalled goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali.
With Maritzburg off to a buoyant start, it was the Chilli Boys that were closest to the lead through Bienvenu Eva Nga from a cross-field pass into the area but he was kept at bay.
The Team of Choice unleashed a threat of their own inside the half-hour mark when a shot-on-the-turn in the area from Zukile Kewuti flashed narrowly past the near corner.
Though within three minutes, Chippa went ahead when Nga beat the offside trap to apply a composed one-on-one finish after he latched onto a flick on from the middle of the park.
Maritzburg attempted to draw level ahead of the halftime period, but a stubborn Chilli Boys defence stopped them dead in their tracks.
This prompted coach Ernst Middendorp to reshuffle his pack before the restart and therefore offensive alterations in Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Rowan Human showed.
However, this seemed prefect for the Chilli Boys as minutes in Nga came close to get a brace from a move down the near side but he filtered over target.
The Cameroonian would snatched the brace eventually midway in the second half when he ran onto a long ball from Riaan Hanamub before going on to beat Petersen from point-blank range.
Unlike midweek where a two-goal lead went up in smoke, Chippa weathered a heavy storm this time around and registered a victory to ease their relegation woes.
