Orlando Pirates rallied back from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over SuperSport United at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers made one change as Kwame Peprah dropped out for Terrence Dzvukamanja, who netted in the win over Royal Leopards in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Pirates were on back-foot and conceded on six minutes through Kegan Johannes, who popped up unmark in the area to drill in a cornrer from casual defending.

The hosts were forced into a substitution with 16 minutes gone, with Abel Mabaso coming on for Thabang Monare, who was recently called up to the Bafana Bafana squad.

However, the Buccaneers were undone by another corner inside a minute as Ghampani Lungu rose unchecked at the near post of the area to head into the back of an unguarded net.

Pirates battled to get a foothold and were nearly three goals behind through a scorcher from Keagan Phillips on the half-hour mark before Mabaso’s snap-shot forced Ronwen Williams to a save.

The Buccaneers managed to grab a lifeline on the stroke of halftime as Deon Hotto fired in from the penalty spot following a foul in the area by Johannes on Mabaso.

Three minutes later, Pirates won another penalty off Johannes, who was deemed to have fouled Dzvukamanja in the area and Hotto stepped up to complete his brace.

The start to the second half continued where the first left off after Pirates struggled to deal with another header from another corner by Thatayaone Ditlhokwe this time around.

SuperSport didn’t stop to infiltrate the goal of the Buccaneers later on in the second period, but the host had sufficient numbers behind the ball to withstand every threat.

With opportunities falling on either end, Pirates seized control in the dying minutes when Goodman Mosele met a cutback from Mabasao and curled into the bottom-corner to give his side victory.
