Sekhukhune United registered their first win under coach Brandon Truter after edging Marumo Gallants 3-2 on Tuesday evening.

Sekhukhune made only one change from their draw against AmaZulu, as striker Chibuike Ohizu replaced Tashreeq Morris in the line-up to partner Victor Letsoalo up top.

Gallants, meanwhile handed Ranga Chivaviro his first start alongside recalls for Monde Mphambaniso, Celimpilo Ngema and Ayanda Nkili, as changes from their narrow loss against SuperSport United.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa had a bright start as Chivaviro had a chance on 17 minutes with a header towards the top corner that was saved by goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata from a cross by Katlego Otladisa.

However, the game opened up after that and Ohizu eventually broke the deadlock for Brandon Truter's charges just before the half-hour mark with a strike in the box after a mistake by shot-stopper Washington Arubi.

Gallants responded immediately from the restart as Ngema levelled matters with a strike in the box after he was setup by Mphambaniso.

The sides continued to create chances towards the end of the first stanza but neither team could go to the break with the lead.

Babina Noko settled the quickest from the interval as Letsoalo restored their lead four minutes in with another shot in the box after a through ball by Elias Mokwana.

Having to come from behind, Dan Malesela made a tactical and attacking change just after the hour-mark, as Joseph Malongoane replaced Lesiba Nku.

Gallants eventually found the back of the net with 22 minutes remaining but the goal was disallowed.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa kept on coming and Chivaviro almost snatched the equaliser 13 minutes before time with a header that hit the post.

However, Gallants opened themselves up at the back and were hit on a counter-attack, as Letsoalo made it 3-1 and completed his brace just after that with a strike from outside the box after a through ball by Given Mashikinya.

Malesela's men pulled a second goal back in stoppage time after Sibusiso Sibeko headed home a cross by Cheick Soumahoro but it was too little too late, as Sekhukhune held on Truter's first win.
