Chiefs made four changes from their 3-0 win over TTM with Erick Mathoho, Siyabonga Ngezana, Lebogang Manyama and Happy Mashiane coming into the side.
Stellies also made four changes, bringing in Robyn Johannes, Sibusiso Mthethwa, Ashley du Preez and Stanley Dimgba.
The Amakhosi had the first opportunity of the game. A clever little flick around the corner released Nurkovic on the edge of the box on the right-hand side but the skipper's effort was tame and straight at Stellenbosch goalkeeper Lee-Raoul Langeveldt.
In the 27th minute, Stanley Dimgba got the ball onto his left foot outside of the box and unleashed a fierce effort but unfortunately it was straight down the throat of Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
Soon after, Deano van Rooyen surged towards the byline on the left-hand side and whipped the ball in behind the Chiefs defence with Ashley du Preez getting on the end of it, but he could not direct his header on target.
With 10 minutes to go before the interval, Chiefs had their most promising move. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo played the one-two with Nurkovic and let fly with a powerful strike at goal but it went wide.
The best opportunity of the the first half, however, fell to Stellies attacker Junior Mendeta but he scuffed his effort badly after the cut-back into the area.
In the 57th minute, Dimgba split the Kaizer Chiefs defence to find Leletu Skelem on the run, but the substitute couldn't find the target.
In the 64th minute, Darrel Matsheke played a one-two with Manyama and let fly from range but it was well wide as the poor standard of long-range shooting continued in the match.
Ten minutes later, Nurkovic crossed into the box and the ball went across the face of goal begging for a Chiefs player to get on the end of it but none did.
The Amakhosi were having chance after chance but just could not find the back of the net. After Leonardo Castro fluffed his lines, Nurkovic's header went inches wide as he connected with Njabulo Blom's cross.
