Swallows FC struck late in the second half to rescue a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United in DStv Premiership action Sunday evening.

Yagan Sasman and Mwape Musonda received recalls by Swallows interim coach Musa Nyatama, while SuperSport welcomed back Grant Margeman in midfield, with Jesse Donn dropping to the bench.

Matsatsantsa missed an inviting chance midway in the first half from the penalty spot following a foul by Sasman on Thamsanqa Gabuza, but Bradley Grobler couldn’t profit and slipped the attempt wide.

There was little in so far as chances from either of the sides with the half flowing by and a tussle for possession around the last third instead showed up.

Swallows had a bright spell towards the break following a quiet opening and runs around the danger area from Waseem Isaacs, Gregory Damons and Musonda pinned the host back in their own half.

Matsatsantsa renewed their intensity as the second half commenced and went ahead when Thulani Hlatshwayo applied a clever finish past Thakasani Mbanjwa and opened his account for the club.

Swallows expectantly pushed numbers forward thereafter in the hope of a comeback, but United proved difficult to overturn let alone cut to shreds.

Gavin Hunt’s men sustained the quiet spell and with the clock ticking away, looked for a second goal though weren’t able to beat the opposite number Mbanjwa.

Swallows were close to the leveller towards full-time when a curling shot in the area from Siyabonga Khumalo struck the post, with Siyabonga Nhlapo brought on for United.

The Dube Birds showed persistence and rescued a point in additional time when Lindokuhle Mtshali played a one-two outside the area and curled into the bottom-corner, as it concluded all square.
