Eric Tinkler wants Maritzburg United to be fearless when they host title favourites Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala Stadium tonight.

Tinkler revealed that one of the challenges they have been facing lately was the fear of losing from his players, which makes them struggle to play free football.

The Team of Choice are in serious danger of getting relegated and against title challengers Pirates, he wants to see a very different side.

"In our last game [against Highlands Park] we struggled to play free football. I think mentally we have a fear of losing, we tend to make mistakes. Against Pirates we have to be fearless, play our normal game and convert those chances," he said.

Tinkler was asked if he feels his players are struggling to deal with the reality they are facing.

"Yes of course, it will never be easy to get rid of that," he responded. "It's about responding in a positive manner. We need to try and be positive so we can get the results that are needed.

"We need to survive. With the right mindset we will fight and get the positive results that will save us from this situation."
