Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed a new addition to his squad 10 games into the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season.

Chiefs have strengthened their first team goalkeeping department, adding to their list of Itumeleng Khune, Daniel Akpeyi, Bruce Bvuma and 16-year-old Bontle Molefe.

Last week reported that former Amakhosi goalkeeper Brylon Petersen had been training with the club again after being released at the end of last season.

Middendorp has since confirmed that the 23-year-old has in fact re-signed and is immediately part of his plans and available to start playing.

"We have to, just in terms of being covered in this department [because] one or two players have a bit of an injury history," said Middendorp.

"Good, we have to make sure that we are not [panicking] if a yellow card or injury is coming in, then something else in addition happens and all of a sudden we have to do a job with a 16-year-old - we can't accept it.

"He's part of the squad and part of the team – at least for me, I don't know, I can't tell you in this moment how far [he is with his contract].

"It's a situation where we, of course, had a clear understanding to get Bontle Molefe a little bit closer [to first team minutes], but he's 16 years old and he's still in school.

"Then you realise there's exams here, exams there, and school here and school there, then he's not at the training ground and some other stuff is coming in.

"Okay, sometimes you have to align your direction and that is what we are doing at the moment by bringing [Petersen] in, and it's the easiest way.

"He was on the market; he didn't sign anywhere; we know him and he knows us, and it's not something that is disturbing or takes too much work - he's in."
