Ernst Middendorp hails fantastic point against Orlando Pirates

Maritzburg showed impressive resilience at the back to break a two-match losing streak and even more impressive was that they managed to do it despite playing the last half an hour with ten men.

"Football is not only played with the physical body. It's played with the brain, with the mindset," Middendorp told SuperSport TV.

"If you experience two games where you really played, I believe in certain moments the majority of the games, against Royal and against SuperSport, if you concede at the end of the game, in extra time, then you lose.

"This is very difficult to handle, to manage. This is another step. In terms of passing and forward movement, you have to take a step back to make sure you're not conceding.

"To make sure you have a point and in particular this combo of Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns. If you get a point in these type of games, it's fantastic."

When asked about Maritzburg's points tally after seven games, he added, "We can talk about a quarter, half of a season. At the moment we played seven games and it's very important to not make the number of points lower than the number of games. Seven games, seven points. You can always make it golden if you have another game with a win. That's very crucial for us to do so.

"There were some moments in the 50-50 challenges where we were not present. Better second half. We were aware not to open up, not to give them the space they were looking for. That was our priority."
