The former Free State Stars coach guided Chiefs to a fifth-placed finish in the league and the Telkom Knockout and MTN8 finals in 2015/16.
Komphela will look to start the new campaign on a positive note in the annual Carling Black Label Champion Cup clash against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on July 30.
"Chiefs has shown a lot of faith in Komphela in his first season and he should repay them," McCarthy tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"I mean Komphela's got the personnel and players he wanted to compete for honours. There is no time for excuses and it's time to deliver."
McCarthy adds: "I'm not entirely sure about what is referred to as the Chiefs way, but I'm thinking it's not only the brand of attacking football but the success he needs to bring to the club again.
"The fans have been longing for total dominance like former teams in the past. It won't be easy and the pressure will be on. It is definitely going to be an interesting season that lies ahead."
Meanwhile, the ex-Bafana Bafana international is confident new Amakhosi signing Keagan Buchanan will add value in midfield. Buchanan is expected to start full training in October as he recovers from a serious knee injury.
"Look, I don't think he should worry too much about the challenges in the pre-season," McCarthy says.
"That was my thinking, you know. But come end of season I made sure I was the last man standing. I would have loved to see him in the Carling Cup but it's one of those things you have no control over.
"The season is long and he will definitely add value. He has very good technique and can form a good partnership with (Willard) Katsande in the middle of the park or even compete with him.
"Other than Chiefs have made good signings in the pre-season," concludes the 39-year-old.
