Fadlu Davids provides insight into working of Orlando Pirates' technical team

Pirates boast arguably the most talented technical team in the Premier Soccer League, with the likes of Davids, Sredojevic and Rhulani Mokwena – all of whom are tactically astute – seated on the bench.

But there has been much speculation around who is in charge and who calls the shorts, with Mokwena often involved in plenty of the communication on the touchline on matchday.

However, Davids has since assured that though the assistants’ input is always valued and well received, the final say is always made by the man in the firing line – Micho.

“It’s a normal technical team, led by one head coach and of course the final decision will always lay with the head coach,” explained Davids.

“Analysing the game, of course the match preparation is done way in advance, through our analysts and us as the three technical team members – mainly from a tactical side.

“But it’s a normal situation, which you have all over the world – not only with two assistants but three, and at big club’s that’s normal.

“On matchday, of course like I said, the head coach makes the final decision and our input – myself and Rhulani – is always valued and taken seriously, but the final decision always lays with him.”
