Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids has rejected that Mamelodi Sundowns are automatic favourites for every trophy despite his side's 2-0 defeat in a DStv Premiership clash.

Namibian striker Peter Shalulile scored a brace to give the Brazilians a crucial victory over their title rivals at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Sundowns maintained their lead at the top of the standings as they look to extend their domestic dominance over the rest of the league.

Despite their defeat, Davids insisted that Sundowns cannot automatically be seen as overwhelming favourites for every trophy this season.

"The league is not won after a result like today," Davids said post-match.

"Sundowns cannot put their name on each trophy especially with us as a brand as Orlando Pirates we are going to fight for each trophy that's available"

"We're going to go for it flat out right up until the end of each tournament we are in and by no means are we giving up and saying everything is done as Mamelodi Sundowns are automatic winners.

"No, we have to look at ourselves and look at the process we are in but for sure we are going to fight for each trophy that's available that's for sure."

The Buccaneers next face a trip to Cape Town where they face Cape Town City in a league encounter on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
