Freddy 'Saddam' Maake calls on Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung to appease the club's ancestors

Amakhosi's hopes of ending an unprecedented three-year trophy drought took strain when the club was knocked out of the MTN8 semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate by SuperSport United last weekend.

Maake believes the Soweto giants can rediscover past glories if Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung can appease the club's ancestors.

"Moments of sorrow," Maake tells

"The founder of Kaizer Chiefs who died by knife, guns. Ewert 'the lip' Nene was killed by knives in 1976. Gilbert Sekhabi knives and stones. Clarence Mlokoti was gunned down, 'Pro' Khumalo was killed. China Ngema was sick and died. Today we hear the shocking story about Bobby [Chiefs football manager, Motaung] who was robbed at gunpoint last week. He was robbed after the game at Atteridgeville with his driver at D'Bango pub with gunpoint to take cellphone and watches (sic). Also the owner of the pub was robbed of an expensive watch worth big money. [The] criminals were wearing balaclavas, [they] ordered everyone to lie on the floor.

"I support Chiefs [for] 48 years. Now is the time Kaizer Motaung [must] bring the spirit and legacy of the team, to arrange the families of the late founder members together for culture sectors to protect [the] Chiefs brand with Amadlozi.

"Remember 1991, Chiefs vs Pirates friendly game at Orkney Oppenheimer Stadium, and 42 fans died including three children. I was part of the accident. After a few weeks Chiefs travelled to Boet Erasmus Stadium to play Blackpool, the wall collapsed. Doctor Khumalo, William Shongwe, Moses Ngcobo, George Shasha nearly died. Ellis Park 42 fans died 2001 April. FNB Black Label two Chiefs fans died. Now [the] chairman must stand up for [the] culture sector. Three years now no trophy?

"I'm worried because my team are an ordinary team now. Look what happened with our players like Joseph Molangoane with a leg injury. After the injury I see [Willard] Katsande, [Ramahlwe] Mphahlele to notice that was a bad injury. Players can also have counselling after that accident. That is my opinion. I'm not trying to talk bad about the team. Chiefs are a big brand, we must protect the legacy. I know the history of Chiefs not from social media like Facebook or Twitter."
