Kaizer Chiefs forward Khama Billiat has reflected on the rise of former teammate Percy Tau and commented on how his own ambitions differ.

Billiat has established himself as a bona fide star both in the Premier Soccer League since his arrival back in 2010 as well as the Zimbabwean national team.

His rise to prominence began at Ajax Cape Town, where he played with the likes of Thulani Serero, who later moved to Europe, before he went on to elevate his level of performance at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he also played with the likes of Bongani Zungu, Keagan Dolly and Percy Tau – all of whom are currently playing abroad.

Tau recently ascended into UEFA Champions League football, putting on an impressive showing against world football powerhouses Real Madrid in their opening group stage clash.

Billiat has since commented on his old teammate’s progression, feeling immense pride that they once tormented PSL and CAF Champions League defences together for The Brazilians.

“It makes me feel happy that I played with him sometimes; it makes me feel happy that he’s representing us [players in Southern Africa],” said Billiat.

“It shows us that we are able to do it, and we’re just happy for him. It gives a lot of youngsters confidence and teaches them not only to dream small but dream big because it’s possible.”

Asked whether Tau’s accomplishments tugs at his own ambitions of making it abroad, the 29-year-old responded: “I just want to win cups right now, that’s what I want and that’s it.”
