Last week, Broos confirmed his 23-man squad for next month's 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco, with Mamelodi Sundowns' Andile Jali and Themba Zwane once again left out of the reckoning.
The duo have not formed part of the Bafana Bafana squad since Broos' appointment as head coach last year despite consistently ranking among the best-performing players in the DStv Premiership and other domestic competitions.
Jali and Zwane played a key role for Sundowns this season as the club went on to record a famous domestic treble, winning the DStv Premiership title with games to spare and claiming glory in both the Nedbank Cup and the MTN 8.
This was recognised by the PSL awards ceremony on Sunday where the former walked away with DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season, Nedbank Cup Player of the Season and MTN 8 Last Man Standing awards.
Despite this, however, Broos' comments during his squad announcement on SABC Sport last week suggest that the door may well be closed for Jali and Zwane when it comes to a potential call-up to the national team in future, regardless of their domestic performances.
"Please do not misunderstand me. Last year when I selected my first squad, everyone was asking me, 'why didn't you select Njabulo Ngcobo? He is the best defender in the league?' Look what happened to him at Kaizer Chiefs. He does not play but he was the best defender?" he said.
"Don't focus on the fact that Jali and Zwane have five trophies. I look through that and again, I said it from the beginning, and I've said it now, and I'll say it in two years when I'm still here. I am very sorry, but I don't see why I should select Jali or Zwane."
