Itumeleng Khune offers clarity on Kaizer Chiefs contract

Khune is currently Chiefs' longest-serving player, having been with the club’s first-team setup since being promoted from the youth ranks in 2004.

It was previously reported that the Bafana Bafana star’s contract was set to run out at the end of this season, with no official update having been provided by the club.

With Chiefs having issued updates on the likes of Daniel Akpeyi, Daniel Cardoso, Bernard Parker and Willard Katsande last month, plenty of speculation went about Khune’s future.

However, the 32-year-old has since put rumours of a possible free transfer away from Naturena in July to bed, and though he refused to confirm the length, he further assured that he is looking to tie his long-term future to the club with another deal in future.

“I think the club has clarified that [contract situation]. My contract wasn’t coming to an end this year, so I’m still contracted and I’m still happy,” said Khune.

“I will work hard to get another long-term contract with the club.”
