Jabulani Mendu: How Kaizer Chiefs players can succeed under Gavin Hunt

accreditation

Hunt, who was recently unveiled as the new head coach at Chiefs and will be assisted by Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane, coached Mendu at Moroka Swallows in 2006.

Contrary to popular belief, Mendu says Hunt is a coach that allows his players to play their game and will not restrict their football ability.

"What I love about Gavin, he's gonna allow you to be yourself," Mendu tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"He's gonna allow you to think, he's gonna give you an opportunity to do what you think is right for the team, as long as you do whatever you do between his guidelines.

"He's gonna guide you in what he's expecting from you, what the team is expecting from you, but be free in the field of play enjoy yourself, but... you need to work hard. I can't emphasise that enough about Gavin. Gavin will want you to work, work, work.

"You need to know that Gavin is a winner. He might not seem like it but he's a winner. He has ambitions, he has goals he sets for the team, for individual players to do."

Mendu also warns the current Chiefs players of what they need to avoid doing when working with Gavin.

"What to avoid with Gavin is being lazy. Don't be lazy, don't come across as someone that knows better than him," he continues.

"He needs everybody to wear their hearts on their sleeves. He needs everyone to work for one another. He hates players that don't help other players, you will work as a team... as long as they can buy into that, Kaizer Chiefs is gonna go back on top, Kaizer Chiefs might compete for the league.

"Only if the players buy into what Gavin is bringing into the team, even the office, once the players see the management buy into it, everybody will buy into it. The players can't perform if the relationship of the management is not in sync.

"You know what's good with Gavin, he can't play without youngsters, and he can't play without senior players."
