The 27-year-old picked up the injury during Germany's Euro 2016 semi-final loss to France in which he was forced to be withdrawn from.

The next competitive obligation for Bayern is a Super Cup match against Borussia Dortmund on August 14 with a DFB-Pokal tie at Carl Zeiss following only five days later.

The Bavarian giants kickoff their Bundesliga title defence on August 26 when they welcome Weder Bremen to the Allianz Arena.

Following the 2-0 loss to France, Boateng was asked by reporters if he believed he would be fit in time for new coach Carlo Ancelotti to consider him for their opening fixtures.

"This will be tight, I cannot promise it," stated the former Manchester City defender.
