John Maduka dramatically exits Royal AM to join rivals Maritzburg United

A major DStv Premiership coaching change is set to rock the KwaZulu-Natal province with John Maduka handing in his sudden resignation at Royal AM after one season in charge.

KickOff can reveal that Maduka is set to depart the wealthy DStv Premiership new boys for rivals Maritzburg United with an announcement set to be made as early as Wednesday.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic manager is set to replace the departed Ernst Middendorp at Maritzburg after guiding Royal AM to an impressive third-place finish.

The 51-year-old has reportedly handed in his immediate resignation at Royal AM and will earn a similar base salary to Middendorp in a show of faith by the Maritzburg hierarchy in his services.

Royal AM also reached the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup after suffering defeat to eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

It can be revealed further that despite Maduka's impressive feats this season, it came against the backdrop of continued infighting with certain club officials.

The knives were already believed to be out for Maduka with the Royal AM hierarchy previously having aimed for a more fashionable appointment.

Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu, SuperSport United, Marumo Gallants, and Sekhukhune United are among a host of top-flight clubs that have so far made technical changes in a managerial merry-go-round in the off-season.

Chiefs have appointed Arthur Zwane, with Pirates releasing Fadlu Davids as SuperSport narrows down their search for a new coach.

Marumo Gallants have also joined the list of clubs looking for a new coach after sacking Dan Malesela while Sekhukhune has appointed Kaitano Tembo.
