Kaizer Chiefs hammered Maritzburg United 3-0 at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night in their second game of the 22/23 premiership season.

A dominant display saw Ashley Du Preez score his first goal for his new club, while Keegan Dolly got his first for the season and teenager Mduduzi Shabalala got the first goal of his professional career as Amakhosi cruised to a needed victory.

Despite the impressive score line, however, head coach Arthur Zwane reminded his players that no one was guaranteed a starting position.

"From the beginning of the season, all players were told that we’re going to create competition. There is no player that will leave his home, knowing he will just walk into the starting eleven.

"Everyone will have to dig deeper, everyone will have to show that they are good enough to play for a team of Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre and the players knew very well," the 48-year-old said.

Zwane was responding to a question regarding right-back Njabula Blom’s substitution, who, by his assessment 'had a terrible game by his standards'.

"Sometimes football is a funny game, I think the past game we played very compared to today and we lost the game," the 48-year-old told Supersport TV.
