Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp rebuffs Absa Premiership title race discussion

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp refused to share his sentiments on the exciting Absa Premiership title race as he emphasised focus on his own matters.

The league race is fast approaching its climax with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns battling it out neck and neck at the summit of the table.

Pirates took a step closer to their first title since 2012 when they beat Maritzburg United on Wednesday to restore their three-point lead over Sundowns, who are again one match adrift as they also continue to battle it out in the CAF Champions' League semi-finals.

With Chiefs having since been mathematically ruled out of the running a fortnight ago, Middendorp refused to discuss his views on who are the likely recipients of the most coveted trophy in the PSL as he stressed his focus instead on their Nedbank Cup final.

“I’m really not interested at all to make a comment on who is making the race on the title. I have only one focus – that’s the 18th of May, and we have to also collect maximum points [before then],” said Middendorp.

“The rest should be discussed on your side. Good luck to whoever will be champions in the end of the season, I congratulate each and everybody. Let them fight and that’s it.”

Chiefs travel to the Mbombela Stadium this weekend for a showdown with Bloemfontein Celtic as they look towards securing their top-eight spot in the remaining three games.
