Kaizer Chiefs' Ernst Middendorp sees similarities between Cape Town City and Bidvest Wits

Chiefs are just over an hour away from kicking off their Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium, where they will be looking to further claw their way up the standings.

The two sides are currently level on points, but The Citizens boast a superior goal difference and thus occupy fourth position, while also still having a game in hand.

Amakhosi come into the tie on the back of a surprisingly gruelling Nedbank Cup test against ABC Motsepe League outfit Tornado FC, which they only just scraped through in extra-time, leaving Middendorp with a selection poser for tonight’s clash.

“We played an unexpected 120 minutes of football. We could have done it much easier to minimise the load, as the players covered long distances on a heavy pitch,” said Middendorp on his club’s official website.

“As a result, we will have to make decisions in terms of the line-up. Finalising the team sheet will be a last-minute decision.

“We have to think about it, while the players will also play a role by giving us their input on how they feel. But we have experience in playing back-to-back games and a tough travel schedule to assist us.”

The likes of Mario Booysen and George Maluleka remain sidelined, along with long-term casualties Itumeleng Khune, Lebogang Manyama and Erick Mathoho, but the German is buoyed by the return of left-back Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya from suspension.

“Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya is back from suspension and he will give us options going forward, while Khama Billiat also didn’t travel to East London [last Saturday]. We have to find the correct mixture and the right combinations,” he added.

Middendorp has also likened Benni McCarthy’s approach to that of Gavin Hunt and has thus warned his side to be at their best.

“They have quality and they have a set-up somewhat similar as Bidvest Wits. They’ve good players and have an abundance of experience in their team.

“We therefore have to be very precise in our approach. We have to exert maximum pressure on them. We will be fully prepared to play and win this match.”

Kick-off of the game is scheduled for 19h30.
