Since joining Chiefs in June 2012, Masilela has found himself having to deal with waiting in the queue for the first time behind Khumalo.

Yet the experienced left-back feels he is still has it in him.

“I think I am still at my best,” says Masilela, who has nine league appearances this season while Khumalo has 11.

“I am still at Kaizer Chiefs, a big team, and competition is tough. I am still okay, I am happy to be still at Kaizer Chiefs and representing the team. For the past four seasons I was playing regularly under Stuart [Baxter] and also last season, so it is the first time in a long time that the coach has decided to change.

“You have to understand as a professional that the team comes first and if the coach feels that S’bu [Khumalo] should start, I have to understand and support S’bu in the team. But it has been an unfamiliar one,” he explains.

Masilela was recently handed a one-year contract extension with an option to renew for another year.
