Kaizer Chiefs are still set to make further departure announcements as they reshuffle their squad for next season.

Kaizer Chiefs have begun the annual stocktaking exercise that has swallowed heavy weight names in the past and left several players in the current squad walking in uncertainty.

Mulomowandau Mathoho will not be continuing at Chiefs following confirmation that his 11-year stay at the club has come to an end.

It was written on the wall that Mathoho’s time at Chiefs is up having played a single minute since March 2022 when he blundered for the goal that gifted Golden Arrows the win.

With Tower out the big question is on who is next with some heavyweight names at risk.

The biggest of them all is Itumeleng Khune.

Khune has only ever played for Chiefs since his first team debut in 2007.

However, truth is that he has faded in recent years from the superstar keeper who carried Chiefs on his shoulders in a squad player as was the case this past season when he stood behind Brandon Petersen.

Khune is a proper legend at Chiefs, so his case is always sensitive in how it is handled.

Does he retire and stay on at the club in a non-playing role?

Will his playing contract be extended for another season on a lower package to balance?

Or will he leave for another club if he still wants to play, and Chiefs is not offering that option?

Time will tell.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 19: Khama Bil

Another name facing an uncertain future at the club is Khama Billiat.

The Zimbabwean attacker already has growing options ahead of the expiry of his contract at Kaizer Chiefs at the end of June.

Billiat’s season has been torn to pieces by injury and is sitting on the edge having completed his fifth year with Chiefs since joining from Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2018.

His stay at Naturena has coincided with the club’s trophy drought.

As the big decision to decide whether he gets another extension or leaves as a free agent remains pending with the AmaKhosi authorities, Billiat is already faced with options though none will match his current package.

The 32-year-old is said to be still appreciated at Chiefs considering his abilities but whether he stays or goes is still pending.

Austin Thabani Dube, Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, and Lehlogonolo Matlou all have reasons to worry as they face uncertain futures with no guarantees offered.
