Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has praised the club's newfound hero Christian Saile Basomboli after an impressive debut in a 2-0 win over Royal AM.

Saile grabbed an assist as Chiefs returned to winning ways, with the Congolese attacker a constant threat since being introduced in the 56th minute.

"I was impressed with his touches," Khanye tells KickOff.

"It's impressive to be able to go straight at opponents wearing that heavy Kaizer Chiefs jersey with all the expectations.

"In Zambia, they watch Kaizer Chiefs, so do the whole of Africa, so they know how big the club is.

"My problem is, since the likes of Collins Mbesuma, Patrick Mabedi and Tinashe Nengomasha, Kaizer Chiefs have not brought in a similar class of foreign player lately.

"There were a lot of expectations and hype when the club bought the likes of Edmore Chirambare, Lewis Macha, Michelle Katsavairo, Bimenyimana and Samir Nurkovic, only to find that they were not what was expected.

"With Saile, I noticed his good touches, I saw him creating a goal, but I still doubt him though I do give him the benefit of doubt.

"I still want to see him in a real test against the likes of Pirates and Sundowns, or against any properly organised defence.

"The doubts I have with him are only because of the poor return foreign players have been giving Chiefs lately, and not because of his talent.

"It was a good move from him in the Du Preez goal, but I still want to see if he will be able to meet the standard of Collins Mbesuma, that's what should be used as a gauge.

"But at this stage, I can say he is promising."
