Kaizer Chiefs captain Siphiwe Tshabalala on the mend after knee surgery

Chiefs have already ruled Tshabalala out of the Carling Black Label Champion Cup against Orlando Pirates on July 30, tweeting earlier this week that the winger and new signing Keegan Buchanan were “injured” and that they wished them a speedy recovery.

The surgery necessitates at least three weeks on the sidelines and that is why Chiefs are not going to risk him in the match against Pirates at Soccer City.

It will also hinder Tshabalala in his pre-season preparations and call into question his readiness for the new season as he misses vital weeks on the training pitch.

The 31-year-old also missed a couple of games last season with knee problems but started 28 of the club’s 30 league matches, plus another nine in the cup.
