Kaizer Chiefs striker Ryan Moon believes winning the Nedbank Cup could augur well for coach Ernst Middendorp’s first full season at the helm.
Chiefs are potentially 90 minutes away from cup glory as they gear up towards the Nedbank Cup final in two-and-a-half weeks’ time.
The Glamour Boys are set to meet First Division side TS Galaxy in a sold-out affair at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 18.
While many are anticipating an abrupt end to the club’s historic four-year trophy drought, Moon believes such a triumph would set a solid foundation off which to build on for next season.
“Definitely, I think we need to give the coach a bit of time – he just came in towards the end [of this season], and he hasn’t yet had a pre-season with us,” said Moon.
“So, what he has done in this short spell has been really great so far, there’s been a lot of times when we’ve shown really good glimpses of playing great football. I just think we need to be a lot more consistent, and we will get there eventually.
“It will be very good for us to get this trophy, just to end the season in a manner that can set the tone for next season, and we can then start off really strong.”
Before then, however, Chiefs will need to get past Free State Stars and Chippa United – their cup semi-final opponents whom they beat in stunning fashion – in their two remaining league fixtures.
