Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has come to the defence of the Amakhosi squad after heavy criticism from supporters following a run of poor form.

The Glamour Boys suffered their fourth defeat in five DStv Premiership matches when they fell 3-2 to Golden Arrows on Sunday in Polokwane.

However, Khune believes the club is on the right track and the criticism is largely based on one bad result.

"I think people are judging us based on yesterday’s result," Khune said on Monday.

"This season we have a new squad. We have a new head coach and we haven’t done that badly, I think we need to be given the credit that the new players have managed to fit in and now we’ve kept three clean sheets in three games [prior to the Arrows game].

"So yesterday’s result cannot make us a bad team in one day. We are a great team, we believe in ourselves and we just urge our supporters totally behind the team and things will go back to normal.

"We’ve been given nicknames before, [people ] saying we’re playing helicopter football but this season things have changed and we are happy that as players we managed to change that mindset and no one is talking about that [helicopter football] anymore.

"Everyone is talking about us playing a good brand of football like the Kaizer Chiefs they all know. So we will continue doing that. We will not from let anything from the outside come and destabilise us.
