Royal AM co-coach Khabo Zondo has revealed the latest on striker Samir Nurkovic as the Serbian nears a return to full fitness following a long-term injury layoff.
Nurkovic made a long-awaited return to training since joining Royal AM after his contract came to an end at Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs are set to face Thwihli Thwahla in the Macufe Cup during the international break at Free State Stadium on Sunday.
"Yes, Nurkovic is just going through the healing process after his injury," Zondo tells KickOff.
"So, we just checked with him if he is ready to play or not.
"But at the moment we are not going to consider him for this game because we don't want to take that risk of thinking he has healed when he has not.
"He's been to three of our training sessions already, so you can't just throw him in such an emotional game against his former team.
"Yesterday was our first training after Mbabane, we took a few days off.
"So, he trained with the team only two days last week, and only one day this week, which was yesterday.
"So, we can't declare him fit after just two training sessions. Our medical department will tell us when he is ready.
"Yes, because it sounds like after some training there are pains, he goes through and all that.
"We must not aggravate the injury."
