Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has come to the defence of his squad amid criticism over fluctuating form.

Chiefs' upcoming DStv Premiership clash against Maritzburg United on Friday presents an opportunity to make it three league wins on the trot for just the second time this season. Such has been the inconsistency of Amakhosi, much to their supporters frustration.

However, head coach Arthur Zwane has come to the defence of his squad and argued that

"Having been a player myself, I understand sometimes. I sympathise with the players. A lot of pressure comes with being a Kaizer Chiefs player, supporters expect us to perform to outmost best week in week out.

"I would say the guys have been tremendous. From where we come from and the challengers we’ve been through; not having a consistent line-up and also having positives in the team.

"We’re looking forward to the remaining games to make sure that we grind out the results."

For all the backlash, Chiefs appear to be getting their season gradually on track. Amakhosi have won three and lost just one their last five league matches, in addition to sealing a spot in the last eight of the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs take on the Team of Choice at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.
