Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has spent this week celebrating a rare achievement after becoming the only PSL player to complete a clean sweep of all trophies offered locally and on the continent.

Now into his seventeenth season playing in South Africa, Mweene has for long been waiting on the MTN8 to make sure that he has lifted all trophies that he has played for in South Africa and on the continent.

The MTN8 finally landed this past weekend on the seventh attempt since Mweene joined Sundowns.

While the veteran goalkeeper didn’t play in the final his heroics in the quarterfinals against Kaizer Chiefs set The Brazilians on their way.

Mweene – who turns 37 next month – has won both the two biggest trophies on the continent, the Africa Cup of Nations, and the CAF Champions League.

He was the hero as Chipolopolo took home the AFCON in 2012 and then added the Champions League four years later with Sundowns.

In 2017 he also won the CAF Super Cup.

On the domestic front, he has won six league titles, lifted both the Nedbank Cup and Telkom KnockOut twice before adding the MTN8 this past weekend making him the only player with these domestic and continental trophies playing in the PSL.

While still with Free State Stars he won the Baymed Cup and Mvela Golden League title.

Back home in Zambia, Mweene won the first division title which secured promotion to the Super League with Lusaka Celtics and then won the BP Top8 with Kitwe United.

The veteran goalkeeper has only played twice so far this season but is amongst a few still playing in the PSL with over 300 appearances under their names.
