KickOff takes a look at the top goalscorers across some the African leagues ending in May

South African football fans have often raised concerns over the lack of prolific strikers developed in the top-flight and with good reason, considering the last time a forward hit the 20-goal mark dates back to the 2011/12 season.

The now-retired Siyabonga 'Bhele' Nomvethe reached the elusive figure for Moroka Swallows and in the seven seasons that have followed, no striker has reached 15 goals.

Zambian ace Mwape Musonda currently leads the charts in the 2018/19 campaign with 13 goals in 21 games - with six games remaining to add to that after the encounter with his former side Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.

While one needs to take into perspective the varying strengths, tactical systems, professionalism and strengths of the respective leagues, we take a look at the top scorers in some of Africa's top divisions.

Top scorers for selected African leagues ending May 2019:

Juma Balinya (Police FC/Uganda) - 17 goals/ 23 games

Zakaria Naidji (Paradou AC/Algeria) - 17 goals/ 24 games
