Lawrence Mulaudzi defends TTM social media tweets after Hlanti, Monare released

Having first stunned the media by announcing the massive news of the club's purchase of Bidvest Wits on social media – before anybody at Wits was even told what was happening – the club did it again.

Thabang Monare and Sifiso Hlanti were stunned to learn that they have been released via social media after the club tweeted a short statement on Thursday evening.

Monare even told snl24.com/kickoff last night that he learnt about the news from a screenshot forwarded by a friend on WhatsApp.

Many feel the club has been struggling to hide its excitement about joining the big guns in top-flight football, sending out ill-timed social media statements that have been perceived as unprofessional and unnecessary.

Some examples that raised eyebrows were congratulating Mamelodi Sundowns when they beat Wits in the Nedbank Cup and when TTM lost to Black Leopards recently in the promotion playoffs, coming out to congratulate their opponents afterwards – tweets that have now been deleted.

"I'm not involved in that, it's the communication department, but I don't see anything wrong," Mulaudzi says.

"In every game after the match teams congratulate each other in post-match interviews, maybe this time it's because it's in writing [that people are misinterpreting it]."

With all the statements sent out by the club, many supporters are feeling that maybe TTM are no longer interested in winning as they have lost all their playoff games.

But Mulaudzi feels it is unfair to criticise or accuse the team of doing favours for others in the promotion playoffs.

"If we didn't want to play, we wouldn't have motivated the players to do well in the bio-bubble and qualify for the playoffs in the GladAfrica Championship," he reasons.

"I think it's unfair for the players to be accused of such. If you look at our games, we've been playing well. Maybe it's because Ajax Cape Town and Black Leopards want it more than us."

Ajax Cape Town and Black Leopards face off in a huge clash at 15h00 today.

Both on six points, a win for Leopards would seal Lidoda Duvha's stay in the top-flight while a win for Ajax would put the pressure on Leopards to win their final match against TTM by a big margin.

A draw would mean Leopards would only need a point in their final match against TTM as Ajax only have today's match left.
