List of current longest serving Kaizer Chiefs players

With Kaizer Chiefs having had several clear-outs in recent years, takes a look at five of their current longest-serving players on their books.

Itumeleng Khune

In team since: July 2004

Though he made his senior debut for Chiefs in August 2007, Khune has been a member of the club’s first team for the past 15 years. The 31-year-old has amassed over 300 appearances in all competitions since then and has won every domestic trophy on offer. His current contract is set to run out in June 2020.

Bernard Parker

In team since: July 2011

Parker is the second longest-serving player at Naturena at present, having joined from Dutch Eredivisie outfit FC Twente in July 2011 on a free transfer. The 33-year-old has amassed close to 300 appearances and won all but the Telkom Knockout on the domestic front. Having recently renewed his contract, the Bafana Bafana striker is expected to continue at least until June 2020, with an option to extend until 2021.

Willard Katsande

In team since: August 2011

Katsande arrived from Ajax Cape Town at the start of the 2011/12 season and has been an ever-present for Amakhosi since. He was recently omitted from the starting line-up in a Soweto Derby for the first time since the 2011 MTN8 final defeat to Orlando Pirates. Since his arrival, the 33-year-old has won two Absa Premiership titles, one MTN 8 and one Nedbank Cup. His contract is set to run out in June 2020.

Erick Mathoho

In team since: July 2012

‘Tower’ is currently fourth longest-serving, since his infamous ‘jersey unveiling’ some seven years ago. The towering defender was signed from Bloemfontein Celtic and made waves in a central pairing alongside Tefu Mashamaite, when they went on to win four trophies in three seasons under Stuart Baxter. The 29-year-old, however, has endured a tough two seasons, having managed just 27 appearances. His last contract renewal in January 2017 saw him extend until June 2020.

Kgotso Moleko

In team since: July 2012

Moleko, like Mathoho, also arrived from Celtic in 2012, and has managed to survive several exoduses despite having struggled to cement his place in the side. The 29-year-old right-back has accumulated 100 appearances for Chiefs but has in recent times found his footing under Ernst Middendorp. He recently penned a two-year contract extension until June 2021.

Should Chiefs be letting go of these players in order to enter into a new era?
