Lorenzo Gordinho moved to Bidvest Wits to end the stalling of his career at Kaizer Chiefs but was also offered to Orlando Pirates.
The 25-year-old was linked with Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic but ended up signing for the Clever Boys during the last days of the January transfer window.
His agent Mike Makaab has given more details on the deal and praised Amakhosi for their honesty towards the player.
"I think Chiefs were honest and that's what I need to say about Chiefs. They were very professional the way they dealt with it," Makaab told the media in Durban.
"Ernst Middendorp said to him he's number three or four in the pecking order, and that is important because at the end all players need is honesty."
With regards to Pirates, the Prosport International boss says they discussed the possibility of joining Bucs but the club did not have any interest in him.
"I can categorically say that we spoke a number of clubs and Pirates were one of them," Makaab confirms.
"But they made it clear that yes of course is a top class player but they didn't really look at him as their main target."
Makaab also reveals that Gordinho was close to returning to Celtic but could not move because of his family in Johannesburg.
"He was on his way to Bloemfontein Celtic, however, once Celtic understood that the chance of securing him on a permanent move weren't possible because of his family conditions in Johannesburg, they opted out of it," he explains.
"Wits stepped in very quickly, the deal was done in 48 hours."
