Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has possibly revealed a key factor in the club’s successful pursuit of Bongani Zungu.

The defending Dstv premier league champions unveiled Bongani Zungu as their last signings just minutes before thrashing Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 at the Loftus Versveld Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday.

The unveiling ended months of speculation around Zungu’s next move after he opted not to renew his stay with the French outfit Amiens.

Several local clubs, as well as international clubs, had been linked with the 29-year-old’s signature and Rulani Mokwena has revealed that Zungu’s relationship with the club he played for before leaving the country was one of the key factors that influenced his decision to re-join the Brazilians.

"I want to thank Bongani for his patience and trust because he had other offers," Mokwena said.

"Bongani chose to come to us. He had very good offers but he chose to come to us. Of course, It helps when there are very good relations with the coaches and the players because then the desire to come and work with the coach is to come and be part of the set-up."

Zungu made 68 appearances for Sundowns and won four trophies during his first spell with the club from 2013 to 2016. He scored twice and assisted seven times. He will be hoping to add to those numbers when the Brazilians take on Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
