Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says there’s no debate about who is the number one goalkeeper in Africa, as he lauded Denis Onyango for the many times he has saved his side.
Onyango has come up with some crucial saves for Sundowns in the Absa Premiership and CAF Champions League, where they’ll need him to be on top of his game when they take on Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second leg semifinal at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, after going down 2-1 in Rabat last Friday.
Many a time there’s been debates about who is the best between Onyango and Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune, but Mosimane says there’s no need for an argument in this department.
“Number one in Africa, there’s no argument. You’ve got to do it at home [in the PSL], for your club and internationally with your country,” Mosimane said earlier this week, after his side registered a crucial 2-1 victory over Black Leopards in Thohoyandou.
Mosimane continued: “He has made some mistakes, but he has saved us at certain times. He is important for us, that’s why he’s here. We needed him in Rabat and he came to the party.”
Both Sundowns and Wydad will train on the match venue today, before they clash tomorrow.
