Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane rules out chances of reaching 71 points

Sundowns recorded an incredible 22 victories that season, drawing five and losing just three times. They were also ruthless in front of goal, finishing the campaign with 55 goals in 30 matches.

The defending champions, to no surprise, have made a slow start to the current campaign. While they remain unbeaten in the six matches they have played, four of those have ended in draws, meaning they’ve collected 10 out of a possible 18 points.

Mosimane feels they do not have a realistic chance of reaching the 71-point mark.

“As I said, I don’t think we’ll get the 71 points again [looking at] the way we started,” Mosimane said after Sundowns’ goalless draw with Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night.

“But who is going to get it anyway? Nobody is going to get it. I think that record was another record, unless you go six or seven games in a row winning and it doesn't look so likely. I think it’s going to be like last season, 60, 61 [points] because who is consistent? What’s important is to keep zero behind,” he added, referring to clean sheets.

Sundowns will take on log leaders Bidvest Wits at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
