
The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper was recently handed the Uganda Cranes armband, where he will be hoping to follow up their 2017 African Nations Cup qualification with a ticket to the 2019 showpiece in Cameroon.
And Onyango, who helped Sundowns clinch their first CAF Champions Leagueand absa Premiership crowns last year, admits he is delighted to have received yet more recognition in his homeland.
"It is indeed an honour to be awarded for my achievements. I'm going to work hard and win it again next year," said Onyango, who also held the titles of best African-based player of 2016 and Uganda Sports Press Association Footballer of the Year.
"I thank the supporters who have been there for me in good and bad times. Thanks for supporting me," concluded Onyango, the current Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season.
