Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda out for six weeks

Mabunda picked up the knock during his side’s goalless draw against Bloemfontein Celtic played in Tshwane last Wednesday, with coach Pitso Mosimane confirming the Bafana Bafana international will be facing a long spell on the sidelines.

“It’s six weeks,” Mosimane said. “It’s slightly torn ligaments.

“I think you saw the tackle. I don’t want to say who or what, you saw the tackle.”

Meanwhile, Mosimane says he has no intention to rush back goalkeeper Onyango despite the gloveman having fully recovered from his long-term injury.

“We keep saying next week, but the goalkeeper coach says, ‘no coach we need to have a fit Onyango for the eight games remaining’. I am happy we have no Nedbank Cup action now, and the Champions League is a bit far off, so I don’t think we should rush him,” he said.

“Our goalkeepers are not making big saves – they are on holiday,” Moismane continued. “Even against Chiefs there was never a threat, so our keepers are on holiday.

“We play one side and goalkeepers from the other team are winning man of the match awards. So there is no need to rush Denis unless you are emotional. We will wait for Denis, he can rest a little bit as there is a big programme coming in May and June.”

Sundowns will look to snap their five-match winless run when they take on city rivals SuperSport United in a league encounter on Thursday evening.
