Sundowns lost 3-1 to Celtic at Lucas Moripe Stadium last night but still pick up the R1.5-million cheque after Pirates lost 1-0 at Bidvest Wits.
If Pirates had beaten Wits, they would have ended level on 19 points with Downs but won Q3 on goal-difference or goals-scored, but it was not to be.
Pirates remain without a Q-Innovation win.
