Mahlambi tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while he was still at Bidvest Wits in 2016 and missed out on playing at the Olympics. The player has been called-up to the national under-23 for their upcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations first leg qualifier against Angola in Luanda on Friday. The second leg will be played at Bidvest Stadium next Tuesday, with the winner going on to play either Mozambique or Zimbabwe in the next round of qualifiers.
“It’s another time to start over again and obviously the aim is to qualify for the Olmypics, that’s what we are here for. We need to work a little bit more harder to get here. We are expected to serve the country is a good way.
“We are all professional enough to know what we are here for. The new guys have been trying to gel with the other guys, so it’s going to be a little bit difficult. But we have to do our jobs.”
