DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have been forced to delay their planning for the CAF Champions League group stages following the latest developments from the continental mother body’s head office.
Sundowns were set to know their group stages fate today (Wednesday) when the draw is conducted but CAF has decided otherwise.
Marumo Gallants have also been affected as they remain alive in the CAF Confederation Cup whose draw was also scheduled for today.
"The CAF interclub Group Stages draw for TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup has been postponed.
"The draw was initially scheduled for Wednesday, 16 November 2022.
"A new date and time will be announced in due course.
"CAF apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this change," reads a statement from CAF.
According to the CAF 5-Year ranking system used to determine rankings, The Brazilians are in Pot 2, meaning s they will again face top-ranked North African clubs in the group stages this season.
Sundowns will meet any of Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Esperance, or Raja Casablanca who make up the four teams in Pot 1.
With The Brazilians in Pot 2 are Zamalek, Horoya, and Petro de Luanda while Pot 3 has Simba, CR Belouizdad, JS Kabylie, and Al Hilal with last Pot featuring AS Vita, Coton Sport, El Merreikh, and Vipers.
Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants will be in Pot 4 in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage draw.
This means Marumo will meet any of TP Mazembe, Pyramids, ASEC Mimosas, and USM Alger from Pot 1.
From Pot 2 they will face any of Motema Pembe, Young Africans, ASFAR, and US Monastir while in Pot 3 their opponents will be selected from Saint-Eloi Lupopo, Al Akhdar, Real Bamako, and Rivers United.
Marumo will have Diables Noirs, Future, and ASKO Kara in Pot 4.
The group stage matches will be played from February 10 to April 1.
