Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted that Kaizer Chiefs deserve not to be underestimated ahead of a blockbuster DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Amakhosi are yet to win a league match in 2023 after successive defeats to Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys are currently 19 points behind the Brazilians and will need a win to keep their opponents within sight in the title race.

"Chiefs will always be Kaizer Chiefs, a big club historical club that needs to be given respect," Mokwena said.

"They have great players on the pitch with maybe the performances being been than the results sugges.

"If you only look at the scorelines like against AmaZulu, you would get the wrong impression about the team.

"If you only check the result against Sekhukhune, you get the wrong impression about the performance levels of the team because they are extremely well organised and very clear in their patterns of play.

"They possess well-drilled schemes, with very good players with a good coach and good technical team around them."
