Pitso Mosimane tips Bafana to beat Libya and qualify for AFCON

The former national team coach was speaking after Sundowns' victory over Maritzburg United last week and made it clear that he doesn't see Libya as a real threat to stop Stuart Baxter's side.

"I believe we can come back with a win, in the [CAF] Champions League we played against the Libyan champions, we scored five goals, you saw that didn't you?" Mosimane said, actually referring to a 4-0 win over Al Ahly Benghazi, who ended second in their league.

"We know some of them are playing in Europe but do they play for Milan, PSG and Chelsea? Come on man, we can sort them out and get those positive results."

South Africa last qualified for AFCON under Shakes Mashaba who was then fired after a fallout with SAFA back in 2017. The man who replaced him, Baxter, has made it clear that he will resign if he doesn't qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mosimane was asked about the injury-prone Rivaldo Coetzee, who has managed to return to the national team after bouncing back following a very challenging period.

"He's a very quality player, you can use him anywhere, play him anywhere he delivers, he deserves to be there to fight with [Thulani] Hlatshwayo and Buhle [Mkhwanazi], he has to show his capabilities," he said.

Coetzee was not part of the Sundowns team that lost to Wydad Casablanca in their final CAF group game last week, and there was no news on whether he would be available for Sunday's clash.
