Maritburg United overcame dirty tricks from TTM

Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler was happy to come back with three points from a tricky playoff match against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on Wednesday.

The Team of Choice won 2-0 at Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday afternoon and Tinkler was satisfied with the way his players responded after facing off-field dirty tricks before the match.

Tinkler felt they deserved the win as they dominated throughout the game and were rewarded in the second half through Judas Moseamedi and Bongokuhle Hlongwane's goals.

"Great win and well deserved for the boys, I think from the first half we did well, defensively I think we were solid and offensively we knocked until we got it right, even though we were wasteful in the first half and second half we had to make things right, make good decisions to get goals," he said.

Before the game, Maritzburg United had to change in their bus after finding their changing room with some product that made the players itch.

"It was worse than that, it was a horrible smell, they put some product that made everyone itch, even myself. It seems like there was something put there, whether it was purposely or not I wouldn't know, but it was difficult to stay in the changing room. Those things used to happen in the past, and it's unfortunate that it still does," Tinkler explained.

"You've got to understand, you have to make players forget about those things and focus on the game, it's very sad to have such situations but what can we do, we've got to deal with them, we had to deal with it in a good way which is getting a positive result, and we did that."

Maritzburg will now travel to Chatsworth where they will face Royal Eagles. A win or draw will see them keep their Absa Premiership status for another season.
