Basement club Maritzburg United have strengthened their squad with the addition of three experienced players.

The return of Fadlu Davids to the club to replace John Maduka has meant the activation of immediate changes at the club with seven players – Lucky Baloyi, Given Mashikinya, Lelethu Skelem, Isaac Masia, Zukile Kewuti, Tshidiso Monamodi, and Thato Lesenyeho.

Davids has adviced management that he needs five players in turn as he plots the club’s escape route which starts with a home tie against TS Galaxy on December before another 16 games in the New Year.

In the meanwhile, three signings have been completed.

Mogamad Rafiq de Goede has joined on a three-year-deal from Stellenbosch.

Maritzburg have handed him an improved deal that is also longer than what he had at Stellies, where he has played since the club came into existence after they bought the first-division status of Vasco da Gama.

Also brought in is Wayde Jooste who will bring in explosive pace on the right.

Jooste was most recently with Orlando Pirates but last played competitive football in May with his last full shift of 90 minutes in October last year.

At Pirates, he worked under Davids through his time as an assistant and then co-coach and so is Jooste will be familiar with what will be demanded of him.

The club has also added Kgotso Moleko following his release by AmaZulu at the end of last season.

Moleko (33) will strengthen the options in central defence, right-back and further up the right-back considering his versatility.

He has previously played for Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs.

Moleko and Jooste will be available to play with immediate effect while will only be available in January after the opening of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, another club discard Richard Zumah is now with ASEC Mimosas,

Zumah battled through the season that he spent at Maritzburg before becoming surplus to requirements.

The Ghana forward previously played for San Pedro in the Ivory Coast top league.
